Bbedit find differences4/12/2023 ![]() Using BBEdit, as suggested by I extracted just the full name from each CSV file and looked for contacts that were in one file and not the other. Once fixed, I used Exporter for Contacts 2 to export a CSV file from macOS Contacts that I compared to a CSV export from Google Contacts. So, it launched from the SSD and I was trying to write the results to my HDD. My iMac has two internal drives, an SSD for macOS and apps, and a HDD for all data files. Amazing turnaround.Īpparently, Exporter for Contacts 2 never wrote the results file because it couldn’t write to a volume other than the one it launched from. I couldn’t get this app to work and filed a bug report with the developer at 12:47pm (my time) and a fix (ver 2.1.1) was in the App Store by 2:36am (my time) the next day. As I posted in my review on the App Store: Yes, Stefan Keller, the developer of Exporter for Contacts 2 is very responsive. I thought that I had posted an update, but apparently I did not. I’m a bit late to this, but I’m surprised Exporter for Contacts 2 didn’t work for you. I tried another from the macOS App Store, Exporter for Contacts 2, and it also failed. It ran for over 2½ and never produced the CSV file. ![]() The app referred to in the above article, AB2CSV, does NOT work. This page discusses two ways to export macOS contacts to a CSV. I can’t figure out a way to export macOS Contacts to CSV-can you?-so the only common format is vCard version 3.Īpparently there are many variations in the vCard 3 specification so a simple text comparison will flag lots of differences that are not meaningful to me.Īll I really want to know is which contacts are in one file and not in the other.Ĭan anyone suggest a simple way to do this vCard comparison? More specifically, I’d like to know which contacts are in one and not in the suggested that I export the contents of each manager to a common text file format and compare the two files. I want to find out which contacts are different between the two contact managers. I bird dogged a few errors in my Google Contacts, deleting two contacts in the process the counts on both macOS and Google both went down by two, but the delta between them remains unchanged. Unfortunately, the counts of contacts are different: Use the "Show text completions" option in the "Editing" preference pane to control how BBEdit presents text completions: either automatically when you pause typing, or only on demand (when you press F5).īesides these (and a lot of other great features), BBEdit also works well with Tower as a version control client.Sync Contacts to BOTH iCloud and Google TidBITS Talk synced macOS Contacts with Google Contacts (after exporting and deleting all contacts from the macOS Contacts application) as you outlined above. You can also use BBEdit's "Go" menu to navigate to other elements such as functions, markers and jump points. Go -> Named SymbolĬommand-Control-J lets you quickly enter a symbol and jump immediately to it. You can then open and edit files in the project, or search their contents. Instant Projectsĭrop a folder on BBEdit's Dock icon to open an instant project window based on that folder. Use the 'bbedit' command-line tool to open files from the command line, or accept input piped from other Unix commands. ![]() You can compare two files, or the contents of two folders, and BBEdit will allow you to review and merge changes. With BBEdit's "Find Differences" command (Search menu), you don't need a separate diff tool.
